In the second half of the 19th century, with the help of engineer Nikola Ivković, Prince Miloš Obrenović laid out the route for what was at the time known as Topčider Road, connecting the National Assembly building in the city with his residence in the suburb of Topčider. The wide, cobblestoned road lined with oak trees quickly became Belgrade’s favorite promenade – the popular “corso” or “Belgrade’s Champs- Élysées. In 1873, the street was named after Prince Miloš and has been called Kneza Miloša ever since.
